About Us: The Alentis Founding Story

Dec 3, 2025

The Problem we were Inspired by

Before Alentis, John-Henry was Commercial Director for the Asset Services team at Lightsource bp. This team was responsible for operating 4GW of solar across five continents. He worked with a 150-person team with deep technical expertise and decades of collective experience. And yet, day after day, he saw them held back by the same persistent, structural problem.

The information they needed rarely lived in one place.

Critical details were scattered across software, spreadsheets, inboxes, and disconnected systems. Procurement tools didn’t talk to reporting tools. Field operations were managed separately from billing and service records. Institutional knowledge lived in people’s heads or in documents no one could quite track down.

The team wasn’t short on skill or commitment. What they lacked was the infrastructure to support them. The solar industry had expanded at extraordinary speed — but the software underpinning its operations hadn’t kept pace.

From inside one of the world’s leading solar operators, the gap was obvious. And so John-Henry set out to solve what appeared to be the most painful, most universal bottleneck: procurement. Fast, transparent access to parts and services. A system to replace long email chains and scattered PDFs. A tool operators could rely on.

A Growing All-in-One Asset Management Platform

As we've worked shoulder-to-shoulder with asset managers, one pattern became impossible to ignore: Every workflow in solar - reporting, maintenance, procurement, compliance, finance - is connected, but the tools are not.

Information lives in PDFs, spreadsheets, inboxes, portals, and people’s heads. Teams are drowning in it.

So asset managers started asking us:

“Can you also help with our reporting?”

“Can you help us manage documents and work orders?”

“Can you coordinate what our field teams need?”

“Can you generate board reports automatically?”

“Can you help reconcile our invoices based on our data?”

Each request wasn’t a feature.

It was another signal that the industry didn’t need another siloed tool — it needed a nervous system.

And so Alentis began to grow into exactly that.

Workflow by workflow, we started automating the work that slows teams down — O&M tickets, spares audits, asset reporting, compliance checks, maintenance cycles, financial summaries. And with every task, every document, every interaction, the system learns:

Your assets. Your processes. Your contractual obligations. Your vendors. Your team’s preferences and decision patterns

This is not software that you configure - this is software that grows with you.

Today, AI agents run quietly inside Alentis, coordinating between teams, documents, tasks, and systems.

They eliminate manual admin, catch issues early, and surface insights that would have taken weeks - or months.

Why We're the Right Team

We're both second-time founders who've built, shipped, and scaled products in complex industries.

John-Henry founded FlareIntel, a B2B SaaS platform providing satellite-derived emissions intelligence to oil and gas companies. He was also Commercial Director of Asset Services at Lightsource bp, where he experienced firsthand the operational challenges that inspired Alentis. He knows what solar operators need because he was one.

Abrar brings world-class technical execution, having built critical payments infrastructure at NatWest and led AI-driven product development at venture-backed startups including Intropic, Borderless, and Zevero. He's built the marketplace platform at Canopey and knows how to make complex systems feel simple.

Together, we bridge the gap between operational reality and technical possibility. We understand both the problems solar operators face every day and the emerging technologies that can actually solve them — not with more complexity, but with intelligent automation that just works.

What's at Stake

The world needs solar to scale faster. But operational inefficiency is a hidden drag on the entire industry. Every hour wasted on manual procurement is an hour not spent driving performance. Every team drowning in spreadsheets is a team that can't take on more capacity.

We're building Alentis because we believe solar operators deserve tools as sophisticated as their ambitions. Because clean energy infrastructure is too important to run on duct tape and institutional knowledge.

And because we've seen what happens when you give great teams the right operating system: they stop fighting their tools, and have the time to think about the bigger picture.

Today we’re working across 5 countries - and we're excited to support more operators as they scale.
